How to Hard Reset MacBook Air or MacBook Pro
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Touch ID . Click “Add Fingerprint,” enter your password, then follow the onscreen instructions. If your Mac or Magic Keyboard has Touch ID, the sensor is located at the top right of your keyboard.
Use Touch ID on Mac
Click Login Options, then make sure that Automatic login is off. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Touch ID, then make sure that "Unlocking your Mac" or "iTunes Store, App Store & Apple Books" is on, and that you've added one or more fingerprints. Try to add a different fingerprint.
Note that Touch ID will not function after replacing the Touch ID sensor. The MacBook's original Touch ID sensor is uniquely paired to the T2 chip on the logic board at the factory—and without Apple's proprietary calibration process, even a genuine replacement Touch ID sensor from another MacBook Air won't work.
