Line and paragraph spacing In Google Docs, line spacing is measured in lines. For example, when text is double spaced, the line spacing is two lines high. You can reduce the line spacing to fit more lines on the page, or you can increase it to improve readability.
And luckily, if you need to double space your Google Doc, you can do so in just a few clicks. Google Docs offers a variety of spacing options. On both the website and mobile app, you can set your line spacing at 1.00, 1.15, 1.5, or 2.00 — a range from single spacing to double spacing.
Anyone who's gone through high school and college since the 90s knows about the “double-spacing with a size 12 font” way to make your essays and other written documents appear a bit lengthier. Google Docs uses 1.15 line spacing and size 11 font by default.
Move to “Paragraph” section and tap the “upward arrow” button next to “Line spacing”. Increase the space to “2” and tap on the “Tick” button at the top-left corner to apply the changes.
The double spacing allows room for comments or suggestions for edits. It's also a requirement to use double spacing in certain types of document style guide such as APA. If you need your document to contain double spaces, then it's easy to do this in Google Docs.
4. To the right of the words "Line spacing," tap the up arrow until the number reads 2.00 to get double spacing.
To quickly select all text, use the “Ctrl+A” (“Command+A” on Mac) keyboard shortcut. The text is highlighted blue when selected. Next, click the “Line Spacing” icon (an arrow and three lines) in the toolbar. In the drop-down menu that appears, click “Double.”

The default line spacing in Google Docs is set at 1.15. While this is suitable for readability in most cases, sometimes, to make a document more readable, double-spacing the text might help. Double-spaced text essentially has a full, single blank line between each line of text.
Format paragraphs
Tap the icon that looks like an 'A' with horizontal lines on its side. This is the Formatting icon. Move over to the Paragraph tab and tap on the upward arrow located next to Line spacing. Increase the space to 2 and tap on the checkmark toward the top-left corner to apply the changes when finished.
Step 1: Navigate to Google Drive and open the document that you wish to double space. Step 2: Click the Line spacing button in the toolbar above the document. Step 3: Select the Double option.
